For the safety of your children and our staff we have some pretty firm rules. These apply for both afternoon sessions and evening shows.

Once registered your child can come anytime we are open and ring the bell to enter at the lower entrance to St James (wooden steps opposite court entrance). Staff will let them in, sign them in and give them their lanyard and pass. Once in, they are free to go to the tuck shop, chill out, sign up for mentoring or join a class.

When they come to leave we will check their notes to see if they need to be collected or are allowed to leave on their own, they will hand back their lanyard and be free to go.

The evening shows are similar, but without the lanyards.

Sound is a safe place where bullying, rudeness and a lack of respect for other users and the space/equipment will only result in one thing, being asked to leave. We have a zero tolerance policy in this area.  

We are happy for young people to come and hang out, find their feet and eventually get involved, but we are not a youth club. If it is obvious that a group is there for the wrong reasons, we’ll suggest they try somewhere else.

We do not allow any food and drink to be brought to Sound, and we do check bags and pockets. They can bring an empty water bottle, there are taps to fill it from, and we have a reasonably priced tuck shop to get snacks and soft drinks from.

Once an attendee is checked they are not allowed to just come in and out all afternoon. If they have a good reason to pop out, no problem, but the door is locked and controlled by staff for the protection of those inside.

To help them engage with Sound the internet is very poor in the building, good enough for a message to get through, but not much else.

For the protection of the attendees and staff, there are multiple cameras covering all areas of the facility, excluding the toilets. The footage is only accessible by our core senior staff and only in the event of an incident. All footage is deleted after one month.

All staff have a full and current DBS certificate.
