SOUND is a local charity, based at St James, that supports young musicians (11-17) to develop skills, write and play together, and to take the first steps towards gigging, recording and releasing their music.

All young people are welcome at SOUND, whether you’ve never picked up a guitar before, but are keen to learn, or you are already in a band looking for practice space.

We have held the free SOUND Sessions in school holidays, led by local musician mentors. Participants have learned to finetune their skills on their instrument, had introductions to songwriting and how to gig, as well as an insight into sound and lighting tech.
We have instruments and kit on hand, so you don’t need to worry about not having your own kit.

The SOUND studio is in the final stages of getting ready and we are looking forward to teaching young people about recording, studio etiquette and hear them practicing their songs in our practice space.

SOUND holds regular gigs for under-18 where the young bands and artists can try out gigging and a safe, fun and supportive environment.
With the help of St James, we are also able to offer £5 Under18s tickets to many of the big gigs at the venue.
