Since re-opening as Guernsey’s Concert and Assembly Hall, the former church of St James the Less has played host to a wide variety of events, both private and public, including concerts, exhibitions, demonstrations, fashion shows, training, dinners, dances, wedding receptions, vins d’honneurs, conferences, wedding fayres, seminars, audio-visual presentations, meetings and marriages. Flexible seating allows for any number of different formats and likewise the availability of rostra enables choirs and orchestras to adapt the stage to their specific requirements.

With its superb acoustics, the Hall is used by local musical organisations for chamber, orchestral, jazz and choral concerts. It also boasts a fine Steinway grand piano and a 3 manual digital organ as well as two upright pianos.

Versatile lighting and a comprehensive PA system are available in-house as are a number of other facilities and additional items which make the Whittaker Hall an ideal choice for any event.

As a guide only, the Hall can accommodate a maximum of 576 people in standard theatre-style or reception format, 217 for dinners and up to 200 for wedding receptions and dinner / dances.

Pre-show and interval bars are provided by Jimmy’s café.
Catering for other events by arrangement with Jimmy’s or outside caterers. A commission is charged by St James.

RATES OF HIRE 2018 – basic hire charge until 11.00 pm
With Standard theatre-style seating £530
Clear hall or non-standard seating £740
Fashion show with catwalk £840

Should the Hirer wish to hold two performances in a one day hire, an additional charge will be levied. Additional charges will be made on Bank Holidays and all hires continuing after 11.00 pm.

Additional charges apply for the hire of rostra, the Steinway grand piano, upright pianos and organ. Services such as ticket printing and sales by arrangement.
